A layman's retirement tools, built for fellow laymen
Hi, I'm Justin. I built Investing Horizons, and I'm not a financial advisor. I'm a regular person who got serious about planning for retirement and ended up building the tools I wished I'd had.
Why I built it
When I sat down to plan my own retirement, I kept jumping between calculators. One handled compound growth, another handled Social Security, a third handled withdrawals, and none of them talked to each other. Worse, most of them kept their assumptions hidden, so I couldn't tell whether a result was realistic or just flattering.
So I built my own: one set of tools where every assumption is out in the open and yours to change. It worked so well for my own planning that I decided to give it away.
Who I am
I started investing when I was about 19 or 20. Everything I know comes from my own reading, research and years of doing it myself. I don't have a finance degree, a license or any professional credentials, and I'm not a licensed financial, tax or investment advisor.
I think that's a strength here. These tools are written by someone who had to figure this out the hard way, for people doing the same. That's why they explain every term in plain English, show their math, and assume you're smart but busy.
What that means for you
- The tools are for learning and exploring. They show what happens under the assumptions you choose; they can't tell you what to do.
- For decisions with real money, talk with a licensed professional who knows your whole situation.
- What you type into a calculator stays on your device. The Privacy Policy spells out exactly what does and doesn't leave your browser.
How the site stays free
The tools are free and always will be. To keep it that way, the homepage, stage pages and articles may show ads, and some links to financial tools or brokers may be affiliate links that pay the site a small commission at no cost to you. Ads never appear on the calculators, and nothing a partner pays ever changes what a calculator shows. The affiliate disclosure has the details.
